Our story

 

Let's take a trip back in time to the 1970's. My Mum and dad had just arrived from England, looking to create a new life for themselves in Australia. Dad was a plumber, and they had just bought their first home. Looking to make a little extra money on the side they started selling clothes at the markets on the weekend. One of their suppliers asked if they'd like to buy some fabric remnants to sell and they though, why not?

The fabric sold out in hours, so they bought more next time. Soon they developed quite the following with people queuing at their store to buy fabric pieces. With this  they moved on from selling clothes and focused solely on fabrics.

They soon outgrew the markets and opened the first of 4 stores in Ramsgate in Sydney. The flagship store would remain open until 2018, when we made the move online.

There has of course been many reinventions over the years, changing with the world, what our customers want and what stock is available to supply. There was the Fleece boom of the 80's, the dance wear boom of the 90's and now a return to focusing on quality, sustainable fashion and a move away from fast fashion.

We have worked hard to develop strong relationships with Australian makers to bring you the very best Australian dead stock fabrics.

Our move to being a solely online business was a big leap to take, but one that allows us to bring our unique range of products to the world, not just those who can physically walk through the door. We focus on fast turnover, at great prices, always endeavouring to bring you something new and exciting.

In 2020 when the pandemic hit we started to bring in European imported fabrics, as we couldn't source stock from our usual suppliers during that time. This allowed us to expand our range to include Liberty of London and other smaller independent fabric houses. Lockdown also saw the birth of the lingerie society. A monthly subscription service for lingerie sewers. With a growing passion for lingerie making, this was a project close to my heart, and one I still love putting together every month. We also expanded into our own range of patterns, bringing the creative ideas of our team to life. 

So.... what's next???
